Tech Packs 101: How to Get Your First Sample Right
A well-prepared tech pack is the single biggest factor in reducing sample revision cycles. Here's our complete checklist for first-time sourcing brands.
In our experience managing thousands of development rounds for brands across North America and Europe, the number one cause of multiple sample revisions is an incomplete or ambiguous tech pack.
What a Good Tech Pack Must Include
- Front, back, and detail flat sketches with clear callouts
- Fabric specification: composition, weight (gsm), finish, supplier reference
- All trim details: labels, buttons, zips, threads — with colour codes
- Detailed measurement chart with all points of measure and tolerances
- Stitch type and SPI (stitches per inch) for all seam types
- Print and embroidery placement with exact measurements from reference points
- Packaging instructions: folding, poly bag type, hang tag placement
